Car Crash Smashes Light Pole Outside Cobb Estate

A late night car crash into a light police at Lake Avenue at Loma Alta has SoCal Edison crews working to repair the damage.

A group of teenagers crashed a Dodger Charger into a light pole right outside the Cobb Estate at the intersection of Lake Avenue and Loma Alta Boulevard early Friday morning, according to Officer Christian Cracraft of the California Highway Patrol.

Around midday Friday, multiple SoCal Edison trucks and workers were gathered around the pole working to fix the pole and restore power.  According to the information on the SoCal Edison website, 99 customers are without power while the repairs are being done (they are expected to be completed late Friday afternoon).

As shown in the attached pictures, the pole has a deep crack in it.  The bumper of the car was also still laying on the ground next to the pole as of 1 p.m. on Friday.

Cracraft said that one teenager suffered minor injuries in the crash.  He said at least one was taken home by Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies.

The intersection, as those who drive through it know, requires drivers to bear right almost 90 degrees around the curve.  There are no stop signs there.

The hiking trails at the Cobb Estate remain open despite the presence of the crews.  Hikers can walk around the north side of the gate without walking through the work area.
