Coyote Kills Dog

A reader informs us that a coyote attacked and killed his mother's dog on Mendocino Street, just east of Lake.

Some terrible news today from an Altadena Patch reader who tells us that his mother's maltese dog was killed in her front yard on Wednesday morning.

The reader, Rick Doten, notes that the dog was in a fenced area when it happened, and wants to remind everyone that during these warm months coyotes are out looking for food.

The attack happened on Mendocino Street, just east of Lake Avenue.  A neighbor walked by and saw the dog, and phoned the police, thinking it had been shot, Doten writes.

Police scanner traffic around 11:30 a.m. mentioned an incident in the area, and Doten said officers did come to the scene.
