Deputies Rescue Suicidal Man in Altadena

Altadena deputies rescued a man attempting to hang himself in Farnsworth Park, Tuesday afternoon.

The Suicidal man was spotted by passersby near the tennis courts in the late afternoon clinging to a 30 to 40-foot light pole with a rope around his neck. Deputies talked the despondent man down and he was transported to a local hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, deputies said in a written statement.

Deputies arrived to the tennis courts after being alerted by the passersby. The suicidal man told deputies that he "was tired of being in pain and wanted to end his life."

The suicidal man reportedly began leaning further out from his spot on the pole, tightening the noose around his neck, deputies said.

Deputies Eric Salvato, Arin Davidian and Andres Bilbao convinced the man to come down from the light pole and he was immediately greeted by fire personnel who began rendering first aid, deputies said.
