Electrical Malfunction Forces Classes To Evacuate at Jackson Elem.
Students were evacuated at Jackson Elementary School earlier Wednesday after a malfunctioning air conditioning unit produced a smell of smoke, authorities said.
Los Angeles County Fire Department received the call at 11:08 a.m. School officials reported the smell of electrical smoke in at least two classrooms.
The classrooms at the school, 539 West Woodbury Road, were evacuated as a precaution, said Lieutenant Angela Shepherd of the Altadena Sheriff's Station.
No flames were seen, Shepherd said.
The reportedly-new air conditioning unit somehow failed and produced the smoke, Shepherd said.
