Fatal Police Shooting in Pasadena Saturday Night

A male suspected robber was shot and killed by police Saturday night. A second suspect, a 17-year-old boy, is in custody for the robbery.

A male of unknown age was shot and killed Saturday night by a Pasadena Police Department officer shortly after 11 p.m. near the intersection of Summit Avenue and Orange Grove Boulevard, according to a message sent out by the department.

The police communication describes the deceased as a robbery suspect. Officers were responding to a call from the victim of an armed robbery and arrived in the area.  

There were two suspected robbers, according to the victim of the robbery who had called the police and followed the two who robbed him.

When police got to the area, the two suspects ran in different directions to evade the police.

As police closed in on the suspect who was ultimately shot they "observed his hands at his waistband" and according to the statement, they feared for their lives and "fired multiple shots, striking the suspect."

The suspect was transported to a local hospital but died once there.

The second suspect, a 17-year-old boy, has been arrested for armed robbery.

The Pasadena Star-News has additional comment from Police Chief Philip Sanchez.  The paper reports that no gun has been found at the scene of the shooting as of Sunday morning.
