Felony Weapons Charges Filed Against Altadena Resident

The theft recovery device on a laptop computer led authorities to the suspect, according to a release from the Sheriff's Department.

A nine-month investigation has led to the filing of felony weapons charges and receiving stolen property charges against a 57-year-old Altadena resident Friday, according to a release from the

Information provided by the theft recovery software on a stolen laptop computer, including keystrokes and screen captures, eventually led Altadena Sheriff’s Detective David Gaisford to identify the computer’s current user as Altadena resident Raymond Jackson.  

After obtaining a search warrant for the suspect’s home, Sheriff’s detectives recovered the stolen laptop and also an unregistered SKS assault rifle with two loaded 30-round magazines duct-taped together, a .32 caliber revolver with the serial numbers scratched off, and six Apple iPhones. According to the release from the Sheriff’s Department, two of the iPhones have been confirmed as stolen.

Jackson was released on $50,000 bond on Jan. 12. On Friday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed charges, and Jackson’s next court date is set for March 12.

“My partner and I have recovered several laptops over the last year alone through laptop tracking,"  said Detective Gaisford. "They often lead us to property stolen in other crimes.”
