Updated: Have You Had Packages Stolen?

An Altadena resident shared that she recently had three Amazon packages stolen from her home. Have you experienced the same thing recently?

While residential burglaries have increased in Altadena recently, one resident contacted Patch about items outside her home being stolen.

The resident, who Patch has chosen to keep anonymous, wrote Monday: “I recently had 3 Amazon packages stolen from my home near Mariposa and Casitas. They are replacing the packages, but just wanted to let my neighbors know to be on the look out.”

Update: Patch contacted the Altadena Sheriff’s Station Tuesday and heard back Wednesday about whether or not package theft has increased in Altadena recently.

Only one package theft has been reported in Altadena in the past month and a half or so, Altadena Sheriff's Station Lt. Eric Lasko shared via voicemail.

Have you had a package stolen from your home recently? Do you take certain precautions to protect packages you have delivered from being stolen? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Yes! We had a package stolen recently from our front porch right after it was delivered by UPS. We reported it to the police but all they could do was take a report.

Yes, I had a package stolen from USPS. It's being replaced. I didn't file a report with the Sheriff.

We had a large package stolen from our porch (mid-afternoon) in October. Sheriffs sent someone within 30 minutes of report. They appreciate knowing when stuff like this happens.

Sorry to hear, AJ. It's a good thing you reported it.

We constantly remind our USPS delivery person to actually put packages inside the gate instead of outside where everyone can see it. Her defense, "I don't know if you have dogs." I asked, "has anything ever barked at you when you put mail in the slot." They're just being lazy.

Not yet, but we track packages like that to know when they are going to be delivered, and make sure someone is around. Our dog is more than happy to alert us the exact moment the package actually arrives. The other thing we do, when possible, is to make sure that any checks we know are coming our way get direct deposited into our bank account. We also have a friend get our mail and any of those annoying "free" papers that get dropped on our driveway on a daily basis while we're away from home.

Knowing the general location of these thefts would be useful, just to see if there is a pattern by neighborhood.

I had a Package stolen I heard the UPS drop the package went to get a Robe to Retrieve it which was less than 2 minutes and it was gone I, had Flyers on my door and saw a Mexican guy with a big sack around him full of flyers and was sure he had taken it when he saw me look around my doorstep for a package he immediately stopped delivering the flyers and left the block I, am sure he took it and I live in the vicinity of Casitas and Mariposa now I, make sure when a package is delivered I retrieve it immediately as well as Track it so I, am sure it is these types of people that are taking packages.

Our delivery guys have been really good since we moved in a few months ago. One of them even tied a package to the back of our gate during the rain. I have had some pretty obvious packages left at the door too when I wasn't home. Though I do now have a night vision camera pointed on the gate for those who want to be made famous on youtube.
