Update: Hiker Killed in Fall Near Altadena ID'd

The body of Martin Samuel Burns, 56, a FOX News reporter from Los Angeles, was discovered in a ravine in the Angeles National Forest Sunday.

A man whose body was found by a hiker in a ravine below the trail leading to Inspiration Point in the Angeles National Forest near Altadena was a 56-year-old Los Angeles resident, the coroner's office reported today.

Martin Samuel Burns died on Sunday. A helicopter team airlifted his body from the scene that afternoon.

According to a story on Variety.com, Burns was an investigative reporter a producer for FOX 11 News. FOX's Gigi Graciette tweeted, "Sad week for our FOX 11 family as we lose friend + colleague Martin Burns in hiking accident.”

Fox 11′s VP News Director Kingsley Smith told the network, "He made a personal difference in my professional life every day. Whenever he stopped by to share a story, I saw the deep passion and dedication in his work and projects.”

The preliminary cause of death was trauma from a fall from the steep trail, authorities said. An autopsy was pending.
