Hikers Rescued After Straying Off Trail in Eaton Canyon

Stranded hikers were airlifted by a Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter after becoming lost near the first falls area of Eaton Canyon Friday afternoon, Deputies said.

Inspector Keith Mora of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said rescuers were dispatched at 11:31 a.m. Two hikers were reportedly hanging off of tree branches near a cliff. The hikers were airlifted out of the canyon and transported by helicopter to a local hospital for minor injuries.

The hikers were located .3 miles off the trail before the first falls. It was unknown how long the hikers were stranded, but the rescue effort lasted about 30 minutes, said Lieutenant Elizabeth Sachs of the Altadena Sheriffs Station.
