Injured Hiker Lifted From Eaton Canyon

Authorities requested a hoist operation to lift the hiker near the first falls area.

A rescue effort has concluded in Eaton Canyon after a hiker reportedly injured himself between the first and second falls area.

Members of the Los Angeles County Fire Department began responding to the scene before 5 p.m. According to officials at the Altadena Sheriff's Station, a 23-year-old male hiker reportedly received an ankle injury.

According to scanner reports, the injured hiker was hoisted out by helicopter from the canyon. Authorities had to wait for a copter to become available for the operation. A medic was reportedly lowered down to the victim in order to prepare his extraction. The injured hiker was with at least four others when the accident happened. How he became injured is unclear.

By 6:10 p.m., the injured hiker was transported by helicopter to Huntington Memorial Hospital, said an official at the Altadena Sheriff's Station.
