LA County Sheriff’s Department Admits Eaton Canyon Press Release Errors

A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department press release detailing the Eaton Canyon rescue of an injured woman this week was far from the true story.

Following claims from Pasadena officials that Monday’s Eaton Canyon rescue of an injured woman did not credit the Pasadena Fire Department and misstated that the woman was airlifted, an LASD spokesman admitted Wednesday the Sheriff’s Department made errors, according to the Pasadena Star-News.

The , claims LA County Sheriff’s Department personnel and Altadena Search & Rescue were deployed to the scene and the critically injured hiker was airlifted to a local hospital by a LA County Fire Department helicopter.

Patch ran the release information Monday night shortly before Mike Leum, Assistant Director and Reserve Chief of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Search and Rescue told Patch a different story, and noted the press release was incorrect and the woman was taken by ambulance to a hospital, which Pasadena officials also claim.

"We have so many (sheriff's) stations and an immense jurisdictional (responsibility),” LA County Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore told the Star-News, regretting the release. “Things just fall through the cracks."
