The required autopsy that would help investigators determine whether the burning was the cause of the man's death or whether he was dead prior to his body being burned has not yet been done as of Monday morning, according to Lt. Cheryl MacWillie of the Los Angeles County Coroner's Department.  Dental records or DNA would likely be used to make the match.

MacWillie did not have an answer for how long it might take to identify the person whose body was burned.  Generally in cases like this the department will need some sort of lead--a missing person report, for example--to try to match the deceased with the person who is missing.

Investigators on Sunday did not have much information on the case - one lead might be a maroon Mazda sedan which was parked near where the body was found.  Detectives towed the car from the crime scene on Sunday.
