UPDATE: Police Dog Tracks Down Burglary Suspect in Altadena

A burglary suspect was transported to the hospital by an ambulance after a sheriff's canine unit helped deputies take him into custody.

A canine unit helped sheriff's deputies apprehend a burglary suspect in Altadena Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

A sheriff's deputy apparently observed the suspect in the area of Devirian Place and Terrace Street at about 12:45 p.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Brett Hanson said.

A police helicopter and canine unit were brought in after the suspect was found, Sgt. Brian Shoemaker of the Altadena Sheriff's Station said. Shoemaker did not immediately know where the man was eventually located.

"They made repeated announcements that the canine was going to be utilized," Shoemaker said. "He never surrendered himself so the canine unit was brought in."

The suspect was transported by ambulance to the hospital after the arrest, Shoemaker said. He did not know if the man's injuries were caused by the dog.
