Police Make Arrest in Saturday's Shooting of Altadena Man

Less than 24 hours after a 20-year-old Altadena resident was shot, police arrested a Chino man.

The Pasadena Police Department arrested a 24-year-old Chino resident in the shooting of an Altadena man that took place early Saturday morning.

Suspect Vernon Woods was arrested Saturday night by department detectives at in Chino, according to Lt. Phlunte Riddle of the Pasadena Police Department.

The news was first reported Monday afternoon by the Pasadena Star-News and Pasadena Sun.

Deontrae Lutton, the 20-year-old Altadena victim of the shooting, remains in critical condition, according to Riddle.  Lutton has not regained consciousness since the shooting, Riddle said.

The shooting was not gang related, Riddle said, but rather an isolated incident done because of personal motives.

Lutton was shot multiple times and was found by the police around 2 a.m. Saturday morning in the 800 block of Summit Avenue.

Police were able to interview witnesses of the shooting and follow up on other leads to track down Woods, Riddle said.
