Sheriff's Department Figures Show Crime Up Slightly In 2012 So Far

Altadena has shown a slight increase in crime for the first two months of 2012 compared to the same period in 2011.

Figures released by the show that in Altadena crime has been slightly higher for the first two months of 2012 compared to the same period.

The numbers show a 20.1 percent increase in violent crime and an 8.5 percent increase in property crime.

However, when viewed as raw figures, the differences do not appear quite as stark: So far this year, there have been 24 violent crimes, compared to 20 in the first two months of 2011.  There have been 202 property crimes, compared to 194 in the same period in 2011.

The biggest difference on the property crime side has been in grand theft auto: There have been 10 in the first two months of 2012, compared to six in the same period in 2011. 

The biggest difference with violent crime is rape, where there have been three, compared to one in the same period in 2011.

Countywide, violent crime is up 6.14 percent for the first two months, and property crime is up 10.9 percent.
