Sheriff's Department to Offer Disaster Response Training

The Altadena station will host a seven-day Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Course

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department will be holding a seven-day Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course in Altadena from July 18 to July 28.

The course will be on the weeknights at the Neighbors Empowering Youth Center at 2662 N. Fair Oaks Avenue.

Students of the course will learn how to do the following things, according to the Sheriff's Department:

+ Manage utilities and put out small fires.
+ Treat the three medical killers by opening airways,
controlling bleeding, and treating for shock.
+ Provide basic medical aid.
+ Search for and rescue victims safely.
+ Organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers to be
effective.
+ Collect disaster intelligence to support first responder
efforts.
