Smoke at Pasadena Target Forces Short Evacuation

Smoke in an elevator shaft at a two-story Target in Pasadena prompted firefighters to briefly evacuate the store Tuesday.

The smoke in the store at 777 Colorado Blvd. was caused about 4:30 p.m. by hydraulic fluid that leaked onto the motor that drives the elevator, Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire Department said.

No one was in the elevator at the time, she said.

No injuries were reported, but the Derderian said the response by the fire department caused traffic backups in the area.
