Suspect Arrested, Accused of String of Auto Burglaries
Detectives with the Altadena Sheriff's Department arrested a man in connection with several auto burglaries that occurred at the beginning of November.
Arrested was Raul Penaloza, 26, on suspicion of burglary and auto theft. Penaloza is being held in lieu of $185,000 bail. Penaloza is also on probation for possession of a controlled substance.
The burglaries occurred between Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 in Altadena. Several vehicles were broken into. Purses and wallets were stolen in the crimes and purchases were made in Sun Valley on several of the stolen credit cards, said authorities in a written statement.
Authorities used video surveillance of the suspect making the transactions and traced the transactions to a residence in Sun Valley, authorities said.
A search warrant was served in Sun Valley at Penaloza's residence where numerous items reported stolen were discovered. The stolen items belonged to the Altadena victims, as well as victims from Santa Clarita and the San Fernando Valley, authorities said.
Among the stolen items were iPads, iPods, iPhones and a stolen Dodge Durango taken from an Altadena residence, authorities said.
The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, who filed several burglary counts against the suspect, authorities said.
