Updated: Williams Fire 24% Contained as of Tuesday Evening
According to the US Forest Service, the San Gabriel Canyon fire is now 24% contained; full containment still projected for September 13th.
Update: The Williams Fire is now 24% contained, according to the US Forest Service 7:30 p.m. InciWeb report.
"Good fire line construction progress was made today and burnout operations were successful. The infrared flight from last night provided additional perimeter information and confirmed active areas on the fire."
Total acres burned: 3,634.

Original: The 3,600 acre Williams Fire, though still "actively burning," is 15% contained, according to the US Forest Service Incident Information System (InciWeb).

- The fire has been fueled by chaparral, brush and mixed conifers, most of which are estimated to have been 15 to 20 years old.
- Firefighting resources have included 4 Air Tankers, 10 Helicopters, 40 engines, 8 dozers, 24 hand crews, and 5 water tenders. Total personnel: 771.
- In spite of difficult terrain ("Very Steep. 30% to 80% slope"), firefighters made "good progress" yesterday.
