Coffee Gallery Holding Another Permit Fundraiser

Altadena's prime coffee house and artist performing space needs more than $8,000 for a parking permit, one of several permits the business has needed to apply for in the last year.

The will be holding a rummage sale this Saturday with the goal of raising more than $8,000 for a county parking permit.

The rummage sale is just one of many fundraisers the business has held or planned over the last year: upcoming next Wednesday is a fundraising show designed to help bring in money for the same permit.

The total cost of the permit is about $20,000, according to Bob Stane, the owner of the Coffee Gallery Backstage, which is the business that books live entertainment for the venue at the .

Stane wrote in an email that the Feb. 8 show will not be sufficient to pay for the cost of the permit. 

The Saturday rummage sale, which will run from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Coffee Gallery Backstage, is another part of the fundraising.  It is being run by the owner of the the front, retail segment of the business, Julie Sandoval, who is responsible for $8,270 of the permit costs.  Those who wish to volunteer or donate items should contact Sandoval at (626)831-8285.

According to Stane's email, the permit money will go towards a parking survey in the area, which is required for an entertainment business that requires public parking spaces.

The and all the money will be donated to pay for the permit.  The performers are Salty Suites and singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers.

The Coffee Gallery Backstage also ran a fundraiser on New Year's Eve.

As for past permit troubles, last March the front part of the business, which serves coffee, food, and also holds free open mic events, ran into trouble with the county over those events.
