PUSD Board Preview: A New Academic Calendar and Budget Cut Discussions

Tuesday's meeting of the Pasadena Unified School District will include discussions of moving the school year forward by a week, and of the district's priorities for future budget cuts that are likely to come.

The hearing on the academic calendar would move the opening school day of the year from September 8 to August 31 next year.  The school year would end June 7 instead of June 14.  The changes would be in effect for 2011 to 2014.

The board will also discuss a resolution on what to prioritize for budget cuts that are likely to take place in the next year.  The board may have to make up to $25 million in cuts, according to the staff report.
