Familiar Face Returns to Altadena Town Council

The Altadena Town Council voted Nov. 19 to fill a vacancy on Census Tract 4612 with a very familiar face.

Harold "Jamie" Bissner, 56, was selected to replace Bill Ward who vacated his position after serving only four months on the Council. Ironically, it was Ward who defeated Bissner in the June election.

Bissner was selected by the Council over two other candidates, receiving seven votes.

Bisnner has been involved with the Altadena Town Council for 18 years, 14 of which he served as a Town Council member.

Atop his high priorities are addressing what he said was a lack of commercial venues and parking in the community.

"We have a dearth with parking here in Altadena, because of the age of the buildings, the community and the way it grew," Bissner said. "The problem when someone wants to open a restaurant … the codes dictate a minimum number of parking spaces, which is virtually nonexistent."

Bissner wants to continue to work with LA County through the Altadena Community Standards District Subcommittee to increase commercial offerings in the community.

"I'm looking to see what I can do through the Town Council and LA County to create a partnership that's going to pave the way for new retail and to help the current retail we have," Bissner said.

Bissner formerly served as Vice Chair with establishing the CSD Subcommittee. He also served on the Council's Land Use committee, the Council's Executive Committee and has served as Vice President of the Sheriff's Support Group.
