Loma Alta Farmers' Market to be Discussed at Tuesday Town Council Meeting

Those who wish to weigh in on the proposal to have a farmer's market at Loma Alta can do so at the meeting.

The Altadena Town Council will discuss a proposal for a farmer's market at Alta Park at its Tuesday meeting.

The presentation will be given by a County Parks and Recreation Department official, who has been working on getting the market together since the Town Council to request that the county do so.

The proposal to put a farmer's market in an Altadena park has been under consideration for months with as the original target.

After there were some complaints by area neighbors, county officials redirected their attention to Loma Alta.

Last month, the Town Council with the proposal despite the introduction of a new market at Sacred Heart Church.  That market closed shortly thereafter as they did not want to compete with that market (and also were concerned about the low traffic at the market).

So far officials have not announced which day or what time the market would be held at.

County officials have said that the new market could start as soon as March, so Tuesday's meeting could be the last time for public members to weigh in on the proposal.   The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the .

Loma Alta is too busy now. To add another function to this park would be too much for the neighborhood.

I know that I have definitely expressed my opinion about this......but I am still angry about the fact that we had what could have been a wonderful little market, especially if the Town Council would have stayed OUT OF IT last month and decided to throw their support to the Sacred Heart location. The first market at Sacred Heart was on 1/08 and started with little or no advance notice. The next one was on 1/15 and I was there and so were others. The organizers had now done much advertising, and the signage for the event wasn't effective. Then on 1/18, the ATC got involved and stirred the pot. The result? NO MORE MARKET at Sacred Heart! So now here we are......4 weeks later.....and where do we stand? More discussion, no actual location and no actual start up date. I wish the ATC would have stayed OUT OF IT.......why fix a situation that would have worked out without your interferance? Find another issue.....like the terrible lack of parking at the Woodbury & Lincoln Avenue location!!

The farmers market at the church was great. The council is being pig-headed by ending it and insisting on taking whatever the county offers. Why in the heck don't they insist on improving the way the county puts barriers in the way we can improve out shopping district. Why not close off Mariposa and have a market there? If the county says no...why the heck not? Why just sit and let the county ruin our park and our peace and tranquility. Why did they close down the church location? This is a bad idea in a bad bad bad location.
