Millard Canyon Pipe Project Subject of Meeting Tonight

The Altadena Crest Trail Restoration Working Group will be discussing an upcoming pipe replacement project Tuesday night.

A planned project that would relocate a 10-inch diameter pipe from nearby a popular hiking trail in Millard Canyon and run it along a fire road will be one of the items on the agenda of the on Tuesday night.

The working group discusses issues regarding local trail maintainence and other related issues and makes recommendations to county agencies.

As on Altadena Patch, the pipe project would mean that 1,400 feet of pipe line would be removed from the side of the cliff along the Sunset Ridge hiking trail and would be put underground alongside the Mt. Lowe Fire Road.

The pipe is exposed in places along the trail and is almost 100 years old.

The project would take about 5 days to complete and would not necessitate closing the trail or the road.

According to John Wagner, of the Forest Service, the deadline for public comment on the project is September 17, though the Forest Service will likely continue to evaluate comments through September 30.  Comments can be emailed to Graham Breakwell at grahambreakwell@fs.fed.us and should be CC'ed to jminer@aspeneg.com.

The working group meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. at the , will also include a presentation on the state of of the Brown Mountain fire road.
