Town Council Preview: School Expansion, Tree Replacement Plan

Items on the agenda include tree replacement grant, and status on CUP's for Weizmann school, and property at Washington/Altadena Drive

The Altadena Town Council meets tonight, 7 pm, at the Altadena Community Center. The agenda includes:

  • A report on the conditional use permit for the Weizmann School, 1434 Altadena Drive. The school, which currently serves grades K through 6, plans to add a middle school through grade 8.  County documents about the school expansion plan say the school would not add to the total number of students allowed at the school.
  • A report on the conditional use permit for 2511 East Washington Boulevard, which County Planner Anthony Curzi describes as a mixed use building with 12 units of housing and a commercial use.  He did not have further details on that plan available when contacted by Altadena Patch.  The property, at the northwest corner of Altadena Drive and Washington Boulevard.
  • An update on the county tree replacement grant for Altadena. The grant, which will fund the purchase and planting of new trees to replace those lost in last winter's windstorm, has been the source of some local controversy due to planned location/allocation of the replacement trees.

Update: The mixed use building, which is listed as 2535 E. Washington Boulevard in the agenda, is actually at 2511 E. Washington, according to Diane Marcussen of the Town Council.  The mixed use building is not at the site of the proposed Indian restaurant - the reference to that building has been corrected in the text above.
