26th Annual Elves' Faire

Pasadena Waldorf School’s 26th Annual Elves’ Faire, the most magical, unique--and “green”--school event in the San Gabriel valley, this year features music, feasting, crafting, holiday shopping and medieval-style contests and games for kids of all ages. Some 4,000 faire-goers are expected to attend again this year.  Admission and parking are free.

The Faire is widely known for holiday shopping that is fun and heartwarming.  The Doll Room is an enchanted showcase of one-of-a-kind handmade dolls lovingly created by members of the Pasadena Waldorf community. The Angel Room is a magical experience for children. No adults are allowed in the Angel Room. Instead, “Angels,” played by eight graders, accompany children as they select beautiful handmade gifts, each costing $5, for their family members and friends.  King Arthur’s Market is a medieval outpost with handmade swords, shields, capes and other beautifully crafted fantasy toys created by community artists and artisans.

Over and above a first-rate offering of traditional items, such as vacations, unique gifts and certificates, The Silent Auction features the work of world-class artists who are members of the Waldorf community.

This year, Elves’ Faire entertainment will feature multiple performances of the school’s wildly popular puppet shows, written and performed by the school’s Early Childhood staff, as well as student performances from PWS and other area Waldorf schools. All this is in addition to strolling minstrels, roving medieval characters and several live bands playing folk, jazz, bluegrass and rock tunes.

Faire-goers can jump into the action at arts and crafts tables on the front lawn or in the medieval games area in the upper yard. Adults as well as children will be creating handcrafted treasures, including ornaments, candles, bracelets and flowered wreaths, to keep or give as gifts.   Medieval-style games include jousting, rope ladders and mazes, throwing contests and much more. Everyone wins a prize!

The Elves’ Faire is among the greenest school fundraisers in the Los Angeles area. By using 100 percent recyclable or compostable materials, including plates, cups, napkins and flatware, the Faire is a zero-waste event. Water is free for faire-goers who bring their own cup. Distinctive re-usable cups will be for sale. “Trash Fairies,” most of them eco-conscious Waldorf dads, will assist faire-goers in using the three-bin, zero-waste system.
