At a public meeting last week about the field alternative, which would be funded by a $1 million state grant, some worried that Muir students would be negatively impacted since it would limit the growth of student-run Muir Ranch, the Pasadena Sun reported.
“This plan, while admirable, the idea, it serves the kids of AYSO… those kids certainly don’t go to Muir,” Muir Ranch executive director Matthew “Mud” Baron said, according to the Sun. “This just doesn’t do my students right.”
Muir Ranch yields items like produce and flowers that have been sold at the Altadena Farmers’ Market and Pasadena Farmers' Market.
They also have a Consumer Supported Agriculture (CSA) program that enables people to sign up and pick up a box of produce and flowers grown by the kids that is supplemented with fruits and vegetables from other local farmers.
