Parents to Push PUSD for Middle School

The group "Organize Sierra Madre Schools" is expected to show a strong presence at a PUSD Facilities Sub-Committee meeting Tuesday, and is urging parents and residents to join them.

Parents of children at are once again mobilizing to pressure the Pasadena Unified School District into speeding up the process of building a middle school in Sierra Madre.

The group "Organize Sierra Madre Schools," which is primarily made up of parents with children at the school, is expected to show a strong presence at the PUSD Facilities Sub-Committee meeting on Tuesday.

On the agenda is a "Facilities Master Plan update," and OSMS intends to reiterate the importance of getting their middle school built.

Currently, children who attend Sierra Madre's middle school do so in trailers and bungalows that sit on a vacant lot. The school was torn down nearly two years ago, and the intention has always been to rebuild. However Tom Selinske, who sits on the Facilities Committee and Board of Ed, has said that budget woes, reduced funding and the Facilities Master Plan update has slowed construction plans for the much-needed building.
