Artisans showed off handmade items for sale, musical acts young and old performed, kids played games and delicious food and baked treats of the organic and vegan variety could be found at Village Playgarden’s Winter Market Saturday in Altadena.
All fundraising proceeds from the event went toward attaining a conditional use permit from the County to build a structure at the lower end of the property that will house a community resource center to teach classes in holistic parenting, sustainability, natural healing and the handwork arts.
In the video below, students from McKinley School in Pasadena and Ocean Charter School in Culver City perform African drums at the Village Playgarden Winter Market. They are led by actor Gerald Rivers, who teaches African drums to kids across the Los Angeles area.
Rivers' students also sell African drums at some events to benefit Da African Village, whose mission is “to foster the cultural exchange between Africa and the world, as well as develop sustainable communities by way of commerce, community involvement and education.”
