Superintendent Edwin Diaz Announces Retirement

Diaz has served as superintendent since 2007.

Pasadena Unified officials announced Wednesday night that Superintendent Edwin Diaz will be stepping down from his position in August.

Diaz, who has served as superintendent since 2007, will be retiring to spend more time with his family, according to the release.

“After much deliberation and meaningful discussions with my family, I find at this stage of my life and career I want to pursue a more balanced and healthy lifestyle,” wrote Diaz in the release.

In the time Diaz has been superintendent schools have seen improvements in test scores and a . 

He also presided over the successful passage of the $350 million bond measure TT in 2009.

Diaz has also faced major challenges with the district's budget over the last few years as the district has made over $30 million in cuts.

He has spent more than 30 years as an administrator in California school systems, and previously was the superintendent of the Gilroy Unified School District.

Diaz was recently named Administrator of the Year by the Association of
California School Administrators (ACSA) in Region XV.
