4th of July Fireworks Seized by L.A. County Deputies

Just in time for July 4, the County Sheriff's Department seized a big stash of illegal fireworks.

Just in time for the 4th of July, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has seized more than 8,000 pounds of commercial grade illegal fireworks intended for sale in the county.

The bust went down in the City of Norwalk, after the Sheriff's Department received a tip about illegal fireworks in a storage unit in the city.

According to the department's press release, deputies found "91 cases of illegal fireworks containing mortars, bottle rockets, roman candles and a variety of other commercial-grade fireworks."

That amounts to a street value of more than $20,000, according to the release.

Fireworks are illegal in all unincorporated areas of the county, which includes Altadena.  Some cities allow certain types of fireworks that don't fly or explode, according to the Los Angeles Times, which provides a list of the cities where "safe" and "sane" fireworks can be used.
