See You at the June Jubilee Festival in Altadena

Aveson Charter Schools Seventh Annual June Jubilee, a free community celebration, will rock Altadena on Sunday, June 1, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Farnsworth Park, 548 Mount Curve Avenue in Altadena.

The June Jubilee stage will be the hottest spot in the park as the legends of Nerd Core, Nerf Herder, headlines the event. Pioneers of the late 90's Pop-Punk and Geek Rock movements, Nerf Herder has toured with groups like Weezer, Reel Big Fish and The Vandals and released several albums on various labels including Arista and indie punk favorite Fat Wreck Chords. The current band features founding members Parry Gripp and Steve Sherlock, with newer members Linus Dotson (of Size 14) and Ben Pringle (ex-The Rentals).

Nerf Herder is most notorious for their 1997 single "Van Halen" and for the theme song to the hit TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The band’s lead singer, Parry Gripp, is going on his sixth year as a YouTube sensation pairing his songwriting skills with crazy music videos that are popular with adults and kids alike.

Four other outstanding bands and musicians round out the music stage. Highland Park’s, Black Hi-Lighter from the Phaedra Records label, brings some hard-rockin’ pop to the June Jubilee scene. Their new single, “I Got Tired,” has garnered airplay on KCRW and they’ve been making the rounds at popular LA hotspots including the Viper Room and El Cid.  Dylan Champion, recently returned from recording in Nashville, will preview songs from his forthcoming album.  This charming and talented musician plays an Americana-style reminiscent of Graham Parsons with a dash of Cold Play. And singer-songwriter, Jonathan Martin Berry, takes the stage to play pop and contemporary hits while The Conductors – Rockin’ Across the Railways and Beyond return to June Jubilee this year to give fair goers a super fun live show that brings parents and kids together.

Not a music buff?  Folks can also come to the park and enjoy family-friendly contests, games, crafts and delicious food.  Craft booths will give kids the chance to make their own tie-dye shirts, spin art and create a Frankenstein-type stuffed animal.
