What is going on ? It seems that every couple of days a hicker is rescued . Folks should take precations and not go where they put themselves in danger. I am starting to think that before using the trails a bacic course in safety would have to be passed, also the hicker or his family should be charged for the services involved in the rescue.   more ›

Yorkshire Terrier Attacked in Backyard by Loose Dog

An Altadena resident on Coolidge Avenue has the following account of a loose dog attacking her Yorkshire Terrier in her own backyard Wednesday morning.

Coolidge Avenue resident Jenni Edmonds has the following account of her dog Eddie being attacked Wednesday morning by a loose dog that appeared to her to be a pit bull: I let my 2 dogs out to go potty in my backyard and a pit bull was in my backyard and attacked my male yorkie. I was able to get the dog off of my dog and took my 2 dogs into the house and I have no clue where the other dog went. It was a white pit bull with brown spots it was 30-50 lbs. My dog is at the vet now. If anyone knows whose dog this is or is missing a pit bull please let me know. I am so upset I called animal control and the police Edmonds posted her account on the President Streets email forum, and one other resident also reported seeing a loose pit bull, and a …

Legislation to Keep Your Facebook Password From Your Boss Introduced

The Password Protection Act of 2012 would the enhance current law to prohibit employers from compelling or coercing employees into providing access to their private accounts.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), along with eleven other co-sponsors, introduced the Password Protection Act Of 2012 last week to hopefully curb employers who require that employees provide access to password-protected accounts, like Facebook and Twitter.  Individual states, including Maryland and California, have already introduced legislation to ban the increasingly popular practice.  In a press release Thursday, Schiff explained why he's backing the Password Protection Act Of 2012, which would protect users across the country: This common sense legislation would prevent employers from mandating that job applicants or current employees disclose confidential passwords to their social networks, like Facebook. Someone's personal page should be just…

Town Council Election Will Not Be Canceled

At Tuesday's meeting there was a brief discussion about whether there is a need to hold an election when no seats are contested, but voting will be held on June 9 as planned.

Altadena Town Council members briefly discussed whether June's Town Council election should be canceled and new members simply seated to Council since there are no contested seats on the ballot. Town Council member Lori Judson brought up the idea, saying that election turnout would likely be very low. However, Town Council Election Committee chair Eric Pierce said his committee discussed the idea and felt it was important for people to be able to show up and vote for a candidate if they wanted to. In addition, Town Council member Gino Sund said the group's bylaws require that it hold an election. Other elected boards sometimes cancel elections if no opposition candidates file to run: the Altadena Library board, for example, canceled its …

Supervisor Mike Antonovich needs to reconsider the role of the ATC and limit it's advisory responsibilities. Until the ATC decides to adopt the Brown Act as part of their By-laws I fail to see how they can claim to be a transparent and fair representative body. I can appreciate the dedication and time that most of the members have spent serving the community, but residents should be fully aware …   more ›

New School in Altadena Possible With San Rafael's Planned Closure

With San Rafael Elementary planned to be closed because of seismic hazards, PUSD is looking at options for new schools, including one location in Altadena. The options will be discussed at a public meeting on Thursday.

The Pasadena Unified School District announced last Friday that Pasadena's San Rafael Elementary School will need to be closed in the near future because of earthquake hazards, and the Altadenablog notes today that one of the options the district is discussing is opening a new school in Altadena. The new location that the district announced is the district's service center property, which is located on Woodbury Road across from Jackson Elementary School, according to PUSD spokesman Adam Wolfson San Rafael is slated to be closed as soon as the 2013-'14 school year because of the discovery of new fault lines that run under the school, according to a district press release.  Under state law, the school cannot modernize any buildings within 50…

It seems interesting that a school, San Rafael, which is 95 years old, and has withstood several California earthquakes could be scheduled for closure. The older buildings were built to last! I am a LAUSD teacher working at a brand new school where the ceiling just collapsed two weeks ago. Let's face it, the older buildings were built better, with stronger materials and better labor, if it wasn't…   more ›

Southern California Gas Co. customers should watch out for a scammer who requests Social Security numbers over the phone by claiming President Barack Obama will offer credit or payment on bills.

Southern California Gas Co. warned its customers Tuesday about a scam in which the culprits tell victims they can get credits on their utility bills if they provide information such as a Social Security number. According to the gas company, scammers have visited customers in person, used social media sites and even sent text messages to victims claiming that President Barack Obama is offering a program of bill credits or direct payment of bills. Company officials said workers for the utility always carry proper identification when visiting customers, and they do not randomly call or text customers asking for Social Security numbers or other personal information. Customers should verify a person's employment before allowing anyone into …
