The County Regional Planning Commission is scheduled for its final hearing on a bike plan that would create a 'bike boulevard' in Altadena and link a regional bike path up to Eaton Canyon.
A county planning commission will review and vote on a county master bike plan that includes a five-mile designated "bike boulevard" for Altadena and a new bike path of nearly eight miles, starting from Eaton Canyon, that would complete a bike path that would run all the way down to Long Beach. The bike boulevard would run east to west in Altadena, starting at the intersection of Windsor Avenue and Calaveras Steet, heading along Calaveras to Mendocino Street, Midwick Drive, Glen Canyon Road and down Roosevelt Avenue (the proposed boulevard route is highlighted in purple on the map on the right). The route of that proposal has been changed several times since it was first discussed at a public meeting last year. Those streets would …

The Town Council's Land Use Committee will likely have one more hearing on the proposed school in February, followed by the official county Planning Department hearing in March
The County Planning Department will likely hold a permit hearing on a proposed high school on East Palm Street some time in March, according to Dr. Sandra Thomas, the chair of the Altadena Town Council. Thomas announced the hearing schedule at Tuesday's Altadena Town Council meeting, and said that the Council's Land Use Committee would hold a final hearing with a vote on whether to recommend the project or not some time in February. That committee held an informational hearing earlier this month to hear details of a modified proposal of the school, would be a satellite branch of the existing Arroyo Pacific Academy in Arcadia. The Town Council and the committee also held hearings on the school in September, at which point both voted not to…

A shopping center on Lake Avenue shows the continued neglect of the best piece of retail real estate in Altadena.
Apparently we may see a few changes at the northwest corner of Altadena Drive and Lake. A very few changes. If you access the property owner’s remodeling plans for these two or three blighted acres – also known as the Rite Aid slum -- it might come as a surprise to find that, though no work has started, the project is scheduled for 2011. The clock, as they say, is ticking. Surprised, that is, until you see the actual scope of the redesign. I figure the construction crew could start and finish the project on New Year’s Eve and still have time to shave, shower, and hit an afternoon party. According to the design graphic posted on the remodeling plan, it appears the owner intends to make a few modest additions -- a new sign and a few trees. …

The owners of the lot at the intersection of Lake and Altadena have filed a plan to improve the parking lot, landscaping, and signage of the shopping center, but the necessary permit application has not been completed, according to county planners.
The owner of a sizeable shopping center at the intersection of Lake Avenue and Altadena Boulevard has filed plans to repair and improve the site, but county planners are still waiting on a permit application to do the work. The project at the lot at 737 to 741 Altadena Boulevard, which currently hosts a Rite Aid, Bulgarini Gelato, and other businesses, would consist of a sealing an re-striping the parking lot, landscaping improvements, and repairing signage at the site, according to Anthony Curzi of the Los Angele County Department of Regional Planning. The plans were filed with the county about nine months ago, Curzi said, but after receiving them, the department told the owners that they would need to file a conditional use permit before…

Hello, I have recently begun to follow the development of this plan, and I have a lot of questions. I don't want to be labeled a "negative nelly", but I have concerns. I live on Pepper Drive, and we already have speed "humps", which are quite a nuisance, albeit somewhat necessary. I wouldn't wish them on anyone. I have also seen the traffic circles, and they seem very silly in practice, with …   more ›
