AltaEats Restaurant Finally Open

After almost a year of jumping through hoops with Los Angeles County, the restaurant opened Wednesday.

Persistence paid off for restaurant AltaEats Wednesday, when the eatery opened after almost a year of delays due to Los Angeles County permit requirements.

Update: See AltaEats' new menu here.

The restaurant does not have beer or wine at this point, but they are “working on it,” co-owner and executive chef Paul Ragan told Patch in a brief email this week.

A reader also emailed Patch Thursday to share about his experience at AltaEats on opening night:

“Finally, a high quality restaurant to serve the Altadena neighborhood. My wife, friends and I had a sensational meal there last night…”

Altadena Patch first shared news of AltaEats in April 2012, when Ragan said he hoped to open by mid-May of last year, but permit snags delayed the opening.

The problem appeared to be that the county did not have a record of a legally-permitted restaurant operating on that property, Patch previously reported.

Though Ragan and several commenters on Patch noted that the site used to be inhabited by an eatery called "Jacks Kasbah," county planner Mark Child told Patch via email that the county did not have any record of the owners of that place applying for a permit.

Ragan previously described the restaurant as not having a particular ethnic focus or theme, but rather as serving "food that I like to eat."

The AltaEats website just has contact information at this point but will be updated.
