5 Things: Altadena Cycling Club, Gabrielino Trail Work

Important local stories and upcoming events in Altadena

1) A new biking group, the Altadena Bicycle Club, has been founded by local cyclocross coach and bike activist Dorothy Wong.  You can join up on Facebook and keep track of community rides, events, and biking news there.  Looks like the group will have a regular mountain bike ride up the Mt. Wilson Toll Road on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

2) Via local trails guru Lori Paul, the Forest Service is holding a volunteer work day for the Gabrielino Trail on May 7 starting at 8 a.m.  The work will be done on a section near the Valley Forge Campground - the trail runs from north of JPL up into the mountains and east all the way to the Chantry Flats area in Arcadia.  Volunteers will meet at the Red Box Picnic Area to work.  Those interested can contact Andrew Fish of the Forest Service at 818.899.1900 Ext. 256 or ajfish@fs.fed.us.  Hopefully the trail will be on the list of ones that will be .

3) The Pasadena Police Department will have a DUI enforcement operation from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. Thursday May 5, also known as 'Cinco de Mayo.'  Those planning to head south to celebrate be aware.

4) Speaking of Cinco de Mayo, there is a over at the Altadena Library to celebrate on Thursday.
