5 Things You Need To Know
Be on the lookout for a man hunting illegally in the Altadena mountains, and be sure to head over to the Coffee Gallery for a couple fun and unusual performances or to Leah Leddy's weekly meditation session to escape the storm.
1) Altadena Sheriff's deputies and residents are on the lookout for a man named Joe "Rambro" Clay, who illegally hunts in the Altadena mountains, kills wildlife out of season (including bears), and hunts too close to public recreational areas and local residences. He was last seen around noon on December 19 near Chaney Trail coming out of the brush holding a bow and other hunting gear, according to posts on the Altadena Crest Trail email listserve.
2) Students who participated in the Altadena Sheriff Station's Youth Activity League "Bicycle Education and Registration Program," or B.E.A.R., were treated to a graduation ceremony at last night. The educational program consists of Sheriff's deputy personnel sifting through thousands of confiscated bicycles and delivering them to local youth centers, where children are taught basic bicycle repair and restoration. Children who completed the five day course received their own bicycle.
3) If you want to get out of the house but stay out of the storm, head over to the tonight for two fun events, both starting at 8 p.m. The free weekly "unKaraoke Sing-Along" is a lively and creative (and increasingly popular) event with each week focusing on a different theme centered on song titles. Or you can head to the Backstage venue to watch the first duo gig by Steve Postell and James Raymond, two well-respected jazz and blues musicians with long musical resumes. Tickets are $15.

4) Altadena resident Leah Leddy hosts a weekly group on Wednesday nights that are open to anyone, regardless of their meditation experience. Leddy calls it "an invitation to give yourself the gift of silence and space, and to practice presence with the support of community." Tickets cost $5 and there's an optional half-hour "sharing circle" after the equally timed silent sit.
5) Does your child have the itch to perform? Bring them to Mary Ann Stevenson's acting workshop at Farnsworth Park every Monday and Wednesday. Click for more information.
