Community Packs Santa Rosa for Christmas Tree Lane Ceremony

There was very little room to move once the 93rd Christmas Tree Lane Lighting Ceremony got underway, Saturday, Dec. 14.

The lighting ceremony is billed as the largest and oldest ceremony in the United States.

Attendees young and old perched themselves on the asphalt road to hear the events speakers, watch area school children perform and finally witness the lighting of the Christmas lights.

Students from area schools performed during the opening ceremonies, including the Blair International Baccalaureate School JROTC, Altadena Elementary School Cougars' Choir and Cheer Squad, Eliot Middle School Huskies Dance and Cheer Squad.

Several area politicians were also on hand, including California Assemblyman Chris Holden (41st District), Congresswoman Judy Chu (27th-District) and County Supervisor Michael Antonovich (5th District).

The Christmas Tree Lane Association emphasized the help of volunteers, including school children, from around the area who helped in setting up the lights. Over 100 students from schools including Arcadia, San Marino and Temple City helped, organizers said.
