Meeting Preview: Election Forum, Hahamongna Presentation

Tonight's Town Council meeting will mainly be devoted to the upcoming Altadena Town Council election.

Tuesday night's Altadena Town Council meeting will be a little different than normal as the bulk of the agenda appears to be dedicated to a candidate's forum for those running for seats in next month's Town Council election.

A total of 11 candidates have filed for the eight available seats, but only two of the seats are being contested- the other six races have just one person running.

Voting will take place next month with a pre-election voting day on Tuesday June 7 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the with the main voting day on June 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In addition to the candidate's forum, the other significant item is an update on the upcoming dam clean-out at the Devil's Gate Dam, which is being given by council member Tecumseh Shackleford.

Shackleford has expressed concerns about running on Altadena streets this summer.  The County Public Works Department is planning a preliminary clean-out of 25,000 cubic yards of dirt, which could mean a steady stream of trucks running up and down Windsor Avenue for months, starting as soon as July.

Public Works officials have said that the trucks could run down Windsor or possibly out the other side of the park in La Canada Flintridge.

The long term plan is to , which would mean many, many more months of trucks running on Altadena streets.

All other items on the agenda are standard announcements and committee updates.
