Prepare for a relaxing weekend in Altadena the next few days before the big school board vote on whether or not to shutter and Elementaries and the vote on whether or not to change its bylaws this Tuesday. But that doesn't mean there's nothing to do. Families, for instance, have a range of options to choose from this weekend.

  • As part of their ongoing , tonight the  will screen the popular animated film Toy Story 3 at 3:30 p.m. If you missed it in theatres, now is your chance to see it for free. The film is 86 minutes long.
  • If you've missed the 's weekly Open Mic on Fridays from 8 to 10 p.m., check it out tonight. Every Friday about 20 local acoustic musicians, comedians and spoken word artists sign up to perform in one of Altadena's most entertaining DIY shows.
  • Urban Design of Altadena will be hosting an early Saturday morning art workshop for children. Children will explore and create nature-themed art. The cost is $12 per child and $10 for two or more children.
  • The continues its Nature Tails event Saturday at 9 a.m. Meet in front of the Nature Center for its weekly storytelling tradition. Who knows? You might learn a thing or two.
  • On Sunday the will guide attendees on a plant walk in Eaton Canyon. Meet in front of the Nature Center at 9 a.m. for a free guided tour of local plants in Eaton Canyon.
