Former Olympian and Altadena Business Owner Honored by Congresswoman Chu

Inger Miller was recognized at the 4th annual Women of Distinction Awards for the 27th Congressional District.

Sixteen women across the 27th Congressional District were honored by Rep. Judy Chu at Saturday’s Women of Distinction Awards and an Altadena business owner and former Olympian was chosen to be part of the prestigious pack.

Honorees were chosen from nominations submitted by members of their communities and included women entrepreneurs, volunteers and civil servants from the San Gabriel Valley.

“No words can describe the contributions that all sixteen of these amazing women have made to our community in the San Gabriel Valley and to the world at large,” said Rep. Chu, according to a statement.

Inger Miller, who earned an Olympic gold medal in the 1996 400 meter relay, also co-owns noted event planning company Miller Hawkins Productions, which moved from Downtown Los Angeles back to her hometown area of Altadena in 2007.

Miller founded the event planning company with her partner Jill Hawkins back in 1990 when Miller was a Tournament of Roses Princess.

To give back locally, Miller selected Five Acres as Miller-Hawkins Productions’ exclusive charity and has donated their services to the non-profit to help its mission to prevent child abuse, keep families intact and ensure safe, permanent and loving family homes for vulnerable children.

Chu added:

From competing for our nation on the global stage, to advocating for those with developmental disabilities, to representing the cutting edge of entrepreneurial achievement, each one has had a profound impact on the world around them. Most importantly, all overcame tremendous obstacles in their careers, proving themselves to be wonderful role models for others who aspire to their success. I thank each of this year’s 16 Women of Distinction for their contributions, and urge them to continue being a shining beacon of inspiration for women and girls in our district and around the world.
