My family is from Bermuda, where the economy is unique in many ways. Though Bermuda boasts a strong services industry, for years tourism was their strongest market. They took an interesting approach to valuation of their currency, fixing it to the US dollar—$1USD = $1 Bermudian. By inflating local prices and compensation levels, they increase the amount of money in their financial system and the net worth of every individual. This type of currency manipulation is what the international community has been condemning China for over the past two decades; but, because Bermuda is so small, their financial practices go unchecked.
So what does any of this have to do with jobs in Altadena? …I’m glad you asked.
Altadena is also relatively small; maybe even small enough that we can fill local jobs with local people while much of our population fills jobs in other cities, and if we do it really well, Altadena could enjoy 0.0% unemployment without anybody getting wise to our diabolical plan ;)
This is what I have in mind…
As a service to the community, I’ve launched a FREE jobs board, called “Hire Altadena,” at jobs.BrentMusson.com. It’s FREE for employers to post jobs and FREE for jobseekers to search and apply for jobs.
I encourage local business and national/regional chains that do business in Altadena to post your local jobs on Hire Altadena; AND, give preference to Altadena residents who want to work in Altadena. Participation in this endeavor will not only strengthen our community, but also STRENGTHEN YOUR BRAND in the community. If you encourage other Altadena businesses to hire locally, they’ll be employing your customers, which brings more money into the neighborhoods where you do business.
If you are a jobseeker, you may not be aware of the companies the operate out of Altadena and the roles they hire for. Some current job openings in Altadena include “Systems Analyst - Architecture Development” for Lockheed Martin, Multiple positions at 24 Hour Fitness and Five Acres as well as entry level jobs at some of the local restaurants.
