Coyote Spotted on Mendocino Street Monday Night

A regular Patch reader spotted two coyotes in an area that had problems with coyote encounters last summer.

Altadena Patch reader Lorraine Pozniak sent in the following account of a coyote encounter Monday night:

I just saw a gorgeous pair of coyotes around 7 PM tonight, at the intersection of Mendocino & Maiden, which I've heard is "Coyote Central".  I was on my way to Ralphs, when I stopped at the stop sign.  A large male was standing in the middle of Maiden, just off the corner.  I pulled over, just looking at him & he stood there practically daring me to take a picture.  I didn't, though, because I didn't want to scare him off so fast.  He was a very healthy looking beauty, about the size of a medium German Shepard, not like the scrawny little things I've seen in Vegas or the Hollywood Hills.  After a moment or two, I knew what he was waiting for, as a smaller female ran out of the shadows to catch up with him.  They then trotted merrily up the hill in the direction of Beverly Way.

Last summer there were several coyote encounters reported on Mendocino east of Lake, including three dog attacks on that street.  Pet owners in the area should take the regular precautions.
