Patch Blog: Unity In Diversity Event Celebrates Community Strengths and Honors Local heroes

Event To Celebrate Community Strengths Through Diversity and Honor Local heroes

Unity In Diversity is the theme of a major dinner-dance celebration and fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday, November 5th that I am encouraging everyone out there in the Pasadena/Altadena (and Sierra Madre) area to attend who has an interest in supporting effective, sustained efforts to promote parental and youth involvement in educational programs.  That education is the "key" to so many positive outcomes in life is something we all agree on and parental involvement is what helps helps to unlock the door.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 5, 2011 from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm. at the Boys and Girls Club, 3230 East Del Mar Blvd., Pasadena. It  has been organized by Transformative Collaborations, International (TCI) and is being sponsored by several prominent local organizations as a celebration of the rich cultural diversity that exists in the Pasadena/Altadena area and the strength that exists in our diversity which can lend itself to our common efforts to educate and secure a fulfilling life for ourselves and our children.

Proceeds from the dinner-dance and fundraiser will benefit parent and youth educational programs of the Pasadena/Altadena Coalition of Transformative Leaders, a dynamic local organization founded in 2006 whose goal is to develop innovative and inclusive ways for civic engagement of parents and youth. Three outstanding community heroes selected by the organization will be honored (Five Acres Executive Director, Robert Ketch; PUSD Board President Renatta Cooper; Angelica Salas, Executive Director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles) for their work which has embodied values that build bridges between communities and develop cross-cultural understanding.

According to Yoland Trevino, Principal, Transformative Collaborations. International, “We live in a very diverse community and in these challenging times, it is important to come together in a spirit of celebration. This event provides a much needed opportunity to celebrate the community’s cultural strengths and to learn from and enjoy one another in a spirit of unity.”

Tickets for the event, which includes dinner and will feature live dance music as well as exciting ethnic dances and other entertainment , are $30 per person and may be purchased by contacting Yoland Trevino at 626.797.3379 or myself, Event Chair, at 626.797.5798.  Here's hoping for a standing room only crowd for this very worthwhile event!
