Altadena Blotter: Scammer Tricks Resident Out of $2,490 and Other Crimes

The report includes crimes from Sunday, March 16 through Saturday, March 22.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Altadena Station released the following report on Thursday, March 27:

Sunday, March 16 

  • 4:55 PM – Michael Poynter, 41 years old, of Altadena, was arrested for public intoxication. 
  • Between 9 p.m. and 5 p.m. (Friday) – A vehicle burglary occurred in the 400 block of Figueroa Drive. Suspect(s) entered the vehicle via unknown means. Loss: radio and keys. 
Tuesday, March 18 
  • Between 4 and 7:30 a.m. – A grand theft from an unlocked vehicle occurred in the 600 block of Colman Street. Loss: silver iPad, Dell laptop and coins. 
  • Between 9:15 a.m. and 5:10 p.m. – A residential burglary occurred in the 3400 block of Fair Oaks Avenue. Suspect(s) entered the residence by shattering the rear sliding door. Loss: gold necklace and currency.
  • Between 9:30 a.m. and 7:45 p.m. – A residential burglary occurred in the 100 block of East Palm Street. Suspect(s) entered the residence by displacing the mounted a/c unit. Loss: orange basketball signed by NBA player. 
  • Between 9:30 a.m. and 7:45 p.m. – A residential burglary occurred in the 100 block of Ventura Street. Suspect(s) entered the residence by shattering the rear bedroom window. Loss: none. 
Wednesday, March 19 
  • Between 6 p.m. and 12:10 a.m. (Thursday) – A vehicle vandalism occurred in the 2300 block of Fair Oaks Drive. 
Thursday, March 20
  • Between 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. – A grand theft occurred in the 1300 block of Sonoma Diver. Loss: bronze Baby Pan statue 3 feet. 
  • Between 8:30 p.m. and 6:49 AM (Friday) – A theft by false pretense was reported from the 1400 block of East Loma Alta Drive. The victim received a call from someone posing as his relative. The relative stated he needed money wired to Mexico due to him being detained by Customs for not declaring money he was travelling with. The victim wired the money and several hours later received a call from a supposed attorney who stated he needed additional money. The victim wired the money a second time and later received a thank you call. Loss: $2,490.00. 
Friday, March 21
  • Between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. (Saturday) – A petty theft from an unlocked vehicle occurred in the 1900 block of Glenview Terrace. Loss: black/gray briefcase, black iPod, gold Ray Ban sunglasses, checkbook. 
Saturday, March 22
  • 11:38 AM – A burglary from a garage occurred in the 100 block of Ventura Street. The victim heard noises coming from the garage and observed (2) males exit via the side garage door. Suspect #1 described as a male, Hispanic, 6 feet tall, 180 pounds, black hair, brown eyes, green sweatshirt and suspect #2 described as a male, Hispanic, 5 foot 8, 150 pounds, black hair, brown eyes, blue sweatshirt. Suspects last seen eastbound on Ventura Street. Loss: none. 
  • Between 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. (Sunday) – A residential burglary occurred in the 2100 block of North Raymond Avenue. Suspects(s) entered the residence via unknown means. Loss: currency.
