Authorities Aiding Hiker and Dog on Merrill Trail

Search and Rescue personnel along with County firefighters initially received word of a woman suffering from heat exhaustion, learned her dog needed aid.

Members of the Altadena Search and Rescue Team have just located a hiker and her reportedly ill dog on Merrill Trial after a nearly one-hour search.

Los Angeles County fire personnel began mobilizing after 3:30 p.m., according to scanner reports. The Altadena Sheriff's Station originally received a call just before 4 p.m. regarding a hiker reportedly suffering from heat exhaustion on the Sam Merrill Trail above Altadena, according to Lieutenant Brian Fitch of the Altadena Sheriff's Station.

According to scanner reports, firefighters from Station 11 requested a rescue helicopter to help in the search.

Rescuers have reportedly been in contact with the woman, who is near the Echo Mountain Ruins, and learned her dog is suffering from some sort of illness, according to scanner reports. It is unclear if the woman is having a medical issue at this time.

The extent of the dog's medical issue is unknown.
