Updated 7:55: Los Angeles Sheriff's Sgt. Cynthia Gonzales identified the suspected shooter as Shaun Rangel, described as being in his 30s, who remained barricaded in a house near Loma Alta Park.

Gonzales also identified the injured woman as Rangel's mother, whom they allege was shot by Rangel in the leg after she asked that he move out of the house.

Rangel's mother and two other family members reportedly ran out of the house after she was shot, got into her red car and drove away as Rangel continued to fire at her. The mother drove the car a couple of blocks below the house, where it remains with what appear to be bullet holes visible (see image above), the sheriff's department said.

The mother and the family members got out of her car and sought help, the sheriff's department said. Her condition remains unknown.

Rangel then went back inside the house and locked himself in.

Negotiators were on scene and trying to talk Rangel into surrendering.
