CHP Investigating Fatal Crash on Angeles Crest Highway

A Monterey Park man died Friday afternoon - the second of the day - after swerving off the road and falling 500 feet, authorities say.

A 48-year-old Monterey Park man died Friday afternoon after his car fell 500 feet after swerving off a section of Angeles Crest Highway that recently reopened to traffic, according to authorities.

The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol about 4:30 p.m. - 12 hours after another fatal on the winding road - and occurred two miles east of Grizzly Flat Road. The man, whose name was being withheld pending his family’s notification, apparently turned his vehicle left and swerved off the road.

Sgt. Deborah Herman of the Sheriff's Department said that the vehicle was a smaller white car, but couldn't confirm make or model. She also mentioned that the accident happened at the 32.5 mile marker, and that someone from the Sheriff's Department was flagged down by motorist who had seen the car go off the road.
