Crime in Altadena Up Over First Six Months of Year

While violent crime is down for the first six months of this year compared to last, there has been substantially more property crime in 2012 compared to the first six months of 2011.

Crime statistics released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department show that the crime rate in Altadena through June is up 17.6 percent compared to the same period last year.

The increase is due to an increase overall in the property crime rates, which went up by 23.9 percent.  Violent crime, in contrast, was actually 5.3 percent lower compared to the first six months of 2011.

The biggest drop in any single category of crime was aggravated assault - there were 17.3 percent fewer incidents through June this year compared to the same period last year.  The biggest increase was in armed robbery, up 45.8 percent, followed by burglary and larceny/theft, both of which are up more than 25 percent from last year.
