Detectives Investigating Brother of Victim in Arson Case

In an arson case that is still under investigation, the Sheriff's Department is looking at the brother of the victim as the main suspect in the case.

A tree in the front yard of a home on Gaywood Drive was set on fire on Wednesday by a home-made incendiary device, according to the Lt. Joe Dempsey of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Altadena Station.

Detectives are investigating the brother of the homeowner, who was arrested this week on suspicion of making threats directed at the brother, Dempsey said.

So far, the department does not have any definitive proof who committed the arson, but Dempsey said the suspect called his brother shortly after the tree went up in flames and made a threat on his life.

The home and the yard on Gaywood were not damaged as the family reacted quickly and was able to extinguish the blazing tree with a hose, he said.
